Chess in Vienna's cafés and bars 5

The bars and cafés on this page set out boards for anyone, not only for a club. At the Debakel in Skodagasse, chess is played every Thursday from eight in the evening, in the bar and in its garden, on large wooden boards. Open World, an eSport eatery and bar in Döbling, has a chess evening on Wednesdays; if no opponent turns up, the staff explain the games. Café Spezial in Gumpendorfer Straße, run as a day-structure project of an inclusion charity, sets up its chess tables on three afternoons a week.

On Sunday evenings the Blue Box in Neubau holds a chess evening for everyone. Café El Speta in Hofmühlgasse keeps clocks and boards ready for its chess-playing guests, although no dated chess event there was found; its entry says so. The club nights held in coffee houses are listed under the clubs.
