Thursday is the fullest day of the Viennese chess week, and it starts at noon. The pensioners' club in Salvatorgasse opens its chess afternoon at midday, the main library holds its chess café in the foyer twice a month from three o'clock, and in the evening the neighbourhood centre NBZ 6 in Mariahilf and the Debakel bar in Josefstadt, with its big wooden boards, take over.
The clubs add the most tables. Schachklub Austria Wien meets at Café Frey, 1. Schachklub Ottakring at HTL Wien West, Schachzentrum Favoriten at Café Anningerblick and Schachklub Hörndlwald at Café Weidinger on the first Thursday of the month; Schachverein Schmelz, Team-Wien and Schachklub Donau play in pensioners' and club rooms, and the Kinder- und Jugendschachverein Wien trains its young members.
